Lagos International Maritime Week to promote Nigeria as preferred maritime investment destination

The Third edition of Lagos International Maritime Week 2018 (LIMW) is aimed at bringing together world stakeholders to network, explore opportunities and promote Nigeria as the preferred destination for maritime investments in Africa.

The Chairman, Zoe Maritime Resources Limited, Mrs. Oritsematosan Edodo-Emore made the assertion at a news conference in Lagos.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme for this year’s event is, “Developing Maritime Infrastructure in Africa”.

The Lagos International Maritime Week will hold from May 15 to 17, 2018.

Edodo-Emore said that “The Lagos International Maritime Week “comprises the 3rd International maritime business, conference and exhibition. The inaugural edition of the Lagos International Maritime Week in 2017 was a huge success. This event will showcase new developments and products to put Lagos on the global map of maritime events worldwide.

“The programme also will work toward continuing the promotion of Nigeria as the preferred destination for maritime investments in Africa. The LIMW provides an invaluable platform for organizations to expand their market share in the maritime industry not only in Nigeria, but in the West and Central African sub-region”.

She said that regional stakeholders would also be participating at LIMW event.

According to her, LIMW will create a platform for providing policy statements and policy directions, notifying the public of the works being done by government, while speakers are drawn local and internationally.

LIMW targets present and future leaders in the maritime community and emphasizes the need to introduce the youth to the opportunities which abound in the industry.

“The 3rd International Maritime Business to Business Conference and Exhibition comprises round tables on: maritime transportation. The event will also address Maritime Security in the Gulf of Guinea, Maritime Law and Arbitration, Port Development, Marine Environment, Maritime Training and Education as well as Women in Maritime, Excursion.

“Mentoring and Introduction of the maritime industry to the youth will be exhibition booths during the 3rd International Maritime Business to Business Conference and Exhibition.”

Edodo-Emore, however, urged stakeholders to showcase their brand products and services.

Among speakers expected  at the Lagos International Maritime Week 2018 are; Dr. Kofi Mbiah, Principal Partner of Alliance Legal, Former Chair of IMO Legal Committee, Former President of Union of African Shippers’ Council, and Former Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Shippers’ Authority.

Mr. Ladi Lawson,  Commissioner for Transportation, Lagos State, Mr. Abubakar Malami SAN, Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Ms Hadiza Bala-Usman, Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority, Mr. Hassan Bello, the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Dr Dakuku Peterside, Director-General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) among others will attend the event.

Also to grace the occasion are: Mrs. Mary Madu Hamman, President, Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association, Mrs. Jean Chiazor-Anishere, President, Women in Maritime Association, Ghana Shippers Authority will be present at the event.

The Norwegian Ambassador, Jens-Petter Kjemprud and the Consul-General of France Mr. Laurent Polonceaux, will deliver goodwill messages at the event. (NAN)
