In ensuring that there is relative peace in the Niger Delta region of the country, a Non-Governmental Organization, Partners for Peace (P4P) has called for integration among the actors of the region and beyond.

Speaking during its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Owerri, Imo State, the National Coordinator, Philip G. Kalio noted that the NGO is working with organizations to ensure that there is peace in the Niger Delta region, adding that the initiative was set up by PIND for peace makers to come together as a network, build capacity of members that will take actions that will bring peace in the region.

He noted that this year’s AGM theme was ‘Volunteering for Peace’.

Kalio posited that P4P has achieved a lot of milestone in the areas of peace building, conflict resolution, violence reduction and creating enabling environment for sustainable development of the region.

He hinted that P4P is working with volunteers who are dispatched to the communities to create actions that engender peace in the region.

Talking about management of grievances in the region, the National Coordinator said that grievance is expressed through complaints about wrongs, dissatisfaction, offences, stressing that once grievances are tabled, timely solution is provided to avoid escalation.

The National Secretary of P4P, Tony Osuoha noted that peace is the only panacea for development, while calling on all and sundry to engage in actions that bring peace in the communities.

He hinted that P4P has done very well in ensuring that peace reigns in the Niger Delta region. Even as he said that P4P is ready to partner organizations to bring peace in the region and Nigeria at large.

Earlier in a paper presented by the Director General of Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Prof. Oshita O. Oshita, he called on the participants that cut across the states in Nigeria to volunteer for peace as according to him, it creates self-satisfaction, builds ones personality and helps one to build network of peace building individuals.

He commended PIND for the initiative that has helped in bringing peace in the Niger Delta.
