The Lagos State Police command has arrested ten suspected vandals who specialized in digging and cutting electricity cable that supplies street light in the state.

The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, Mr. Edgal Imohimi who disclosed this while parading the suspects before newsmen at the command headquarters, Ikeja, Lagos revealed that information was received from a credible source at about 2.00am on the 15 January, 2019 that some vandals were sighted digging and cutting electricity cable that supplies street light around White sand area, Orile Iganmu Lagos.

Edgal noted that acting on the information; operatives of FSARS attached to Ijora Badia Base, swiftly mobilized to the scene and arrested the following suspects: Mohammed Yusuf ‘m’ 18 years, Mohammed Babakur ‘m’ 30 years, Abu Zenou ‘m’ 25 years, Abdullahi Abba ‘m’ 37 years and Awam Abubakar ‘m’ 22 years.

Others included; Nurudeen Ogunseye ‘m’ 46 years, Azeez Olayinka ‘m’ 20 years, Abdulrahman Momoh ‘m’ 24 years, Mohammed Kabiru ‘m’ 27 years and Yusuf Mustapha ‘m’ 23 years.

He disclosed that Exhibits recovered from them were Electricity cable, Knife and a hack saw while adding that suspects would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.

He however warned that henceforth, Police would no longer stop at arresting who engages in vandalizing electricity cables as it would take it a step further to arrest those who buy the stolen cables from them saying that this would be so because if the vandals don’t find buyers of the proceeds of crime, they would be discouraged from further engaging in the crime.

He therefore called on dealers of electricity cable to ensure they patronize genuine suppliers as no one would be spared when caught on the wrong side of the law.
