Fake Policeman, accomplice arrested with stolen vehicle in Anambra

…As Police arrest five armed robbery suspects, recover arms

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Anambra State Police command has arrested a 33 year old man, Hassan Abuka from Benue state for impersonating Police officer to rob people of their vehicles.

According to a statement in Awka on Thursday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Mohammed, the suspect who was fully dressed in Police camouflage uniform bearing a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) rank was arrested at Ihiala alongside one Ismaila Ahmed, 37, also from Otukpo, Benue state at about 4.30pm on 8th August, 2019.

The statement said that the suspects who specialized in impersonating Police officers to deceive their victims snatched a Toyota Corolla car with registration number Lagos AGL 357 FC, from a yet to be identified victim in Lagos and were geolocated at their hideout in Anambra state.

It added that exhibits recovered in their possession included the snatched vehicle and additional vehicle plate number Lagos FKJ 701 FR.

“All the Suspects have voluntarily confessed to the crime and are assisting the Police with useful information that could aid investigation after which they would be charged to court for prosecution”, the statement said.

Meanwhile, the operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Anambra State Police command, following discreet investigations, have arrested five additional suspects from different different locations within Orlu LGA of Imo State, Nsukka in Enugu State and Oba in Idemili South LGA said to belong to a syndicate that was earlier in the month busted by men of the command.

A statement by the spokesman of the command, Haruna Mohammed gave the names of the suspects to include: Felix Chukwujiama, 33, from Oba, Anambra State, Oluchukwu Anyafule, 32, from Oba, Anambra State, Ikechukwu Ibezim, 35, from Nkwelle Orlu, Imo State, Ikechukwu Igwe, 35, from Orlu, Imo State and Emeka Mama, 34, from Nsukka, Enugu State.

The statement recalled that on the 7th August, 2019 at about 6.47am, operatives of Operation Puff-Adder in conjunction with patrol team attached to Operation Kpochapu, while on stop and search duty at Upper Iweka in Onitsha intercepted a  bus with registration number UKP- 108-ZU coming from Asaba and after a thorough search, recovered a Police Beretta pistol with breech number AO-4909Z loaded  with seven rounds of life ammunition, one expanded ammunition and six different handsets in possession of one Sunday Onyema, aged 35, from Orlu in Imo State.

“Exhibits recovered from the suspects in addition to the Beretta pistol earlier recovered include, one English Chief Revolver pistol, one locally made double barrel pistol, five live cartridges and one .9mm live ammunition”, the statement said.
