…Commences disciplinary action

Following the directive given by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Abubakar Sadiq, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has identified its personnel seen assaulting a civilian in a viral video as Lance Corporal Josiah Yisa and Aircraftman Johnson Hunton.

The Director Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola who disclosed this in his verified twitter handle @KunleDaramola3 said that the airmen were part of an FCT Joint Task Team conducting patrols around locations in Abuja on 30 August, 2019 when they allegedly observed the victim snatching a lady’s purse.

Daramola noted that the personnel claimed that it was in the process of enforcing his arrest that they inadvertently assaulted him.

He further stated that they acted illegally regardless of the victim’s alleged offence.

“Pursuant to Nigeria Air Force’s zero tolerance for human rights violations and sequel to preliminary investigations, they have been charged and will be tried on 2 September, 2019  and punished accordingly, if found guilty.

“The public will be duly notified of the outcome. While tendering its unreserved apology to the victim, Nigeria Air Force assures that as a professional and disciplined force, it will continue to uphold the rights of all Nigerians while remaining accountable to the Nigerian people”, he said.
