…Pledges financial help for victims to restart business
…Seeks strong police investigation, functional fire service in Onitsha
Frontline Industrialist/Philanthropist, Dr. Chidozie Nwankwo, Chairman/CEO Wichtech Group Of Companies, President and Founder Kingdom Care Foundation yesterday visited Onitsha to sympathize with the victims of Ochanja Market fire disaster.
Toronto Hospital was his first port of call where he met with some victims of the fire incident and paid their bill. Six of the victims have been discharged while two are still receiving treatment according to the hospital management.
Dr. Nwankwo who was accompanied by Senior Pastor of Rhema Church Nnewi branch, Pastor Ejike Nwachukwu later drove to Ochanja Market square by Zik’s Avenue where the fire really wreaked havoc and pledged to assist those who were affected by the inferno with financial aid.
He urged the traders to get him the list of those affected by the ugly incident assuring that he will send his widow’s mite to enable them get back to their businesses.
He admonished those affected by the inferno to trust in God for recovery reminding them that Ndigbo recovered from the devastating effect of the civil war with just 20 pounds which was given to each Igbo man by the Nigeria authority after the war.
Going further, the industrialist called for a strong police investigation into the matter with a view to unravel the mystery behind the fire incident noting that there could be a foul play somehow owing to the fact that the head of the tanker that wrecked the havoc was not found around the body.
“The body of the tanker exploded without the head around it, that means something is wrong somewhere, so the police have to do a thorough investigation to uncover what really transpired and how the head of the tanker separated from its body which exploded and destroyed lives and properties worth big amount of money”, he insisted
He also called for functional fire service stations in all Onitsha markets pointing out that each market should have well equipped fire station with functional vehicles and enough manpower for effective response to fire incidents in the city and its environs.
In his own words, Pastor Ejike Nwachukwu commended Dr. Nwankwo for his philanthropic gesture to the fire victims praying that God will reward him in abundance.
While praying for the recovery of those who were affected by the tragedy, the lawyer turned Pastor also advised others who are well to do to emulate Dr. Nwankwo in finding means to lend help to the victims of the fire incident.
