…As Police burst car snatching syndicate
The Police in Rivers State have paraded six (6) suspects in connection with the murder of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Late Chief Nwozuruaka Anele.
Anele was murdered on 21st September, 2019 in cold blood in the presence of his wife and children at his residence in Alakahia, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Speaking in a statement in Port-Harcourt on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni gave the names of the suspects as; Bright Wali, 21, from Alakahia community, Blessing Ogbuagu, 23, from Abia State, Chineme Wemeh, 26, from Alakahia community, Stanley Levi, 19, from Alakahia community, Nnamdi Emenike, 35, from Alakahia community and Sunday Bright, 35, from Alakahia.
Omoni stated that the suspects who were arrested at different times, confessed to belonging to Iceland Cult group terrorizing Alakahia and Choba communities in Obio/Akpor LGA of the State.
“One of the suspects, Bright Wali ‘m’ confessed to have led his gang on that fateful day, to the house of the deceased, where they shot him to death. His confession led to the arrest of others who have also confessed their complicity in the murder”, he said.
He revealed that the Homicide Section of the State CID having concluded investigation and established a prima facie case against them will arraign them.
In a related development, operatives of the Anti- Robbery Squad of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), acting on credible information, has arrested one Dumlebabari Wugah, 30, from Kaani II in Khana LGA of the State.
According to DSP Nnamdi omoni, Dumlebabari is the leader of the criminal gang that specialized in snatching cars in Rivers state and its environs.
He disclosed that his arrest and consequent confession led to the arrest of one Saviour George, 28, who allegedly receives the snatched cars from them and in whose possession two snatched cars namely; Toyota Camry with Reg. No. Abuja GWA 248 YK and Toyota Corolla with Reg. No. RLU 386 KM, were recovered.
Omoni said, “In his confession, Dumlebabari Wugah stated that he is the leader of a five man gang that snatches cars from unsuspecting victims. He further stated that their modus operandi is that they use the lady among them to disguise like a pregnant woman under labour, which usually attracts sympathy from passers-by who will be forced to stop and offer assistance, whereupon they will be attacked and their cars taken away.”
The duo were to be charged to Court yesterday for the offences of armed robbery and receiving stolen property, respectively.
He however quoted the Commissioner of Police Rivers State, CP Mustapha Dandaura as renewing his call for support from the public in information sharing, while promising to sustain the onslaught against armed banditry in the state.
