Sequel to the Police Wireless Message dated 8 Nember, 2019 from the Force Headquarters Abuja, AIG Ahmed Iliyasu has assumed duty as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in-charge of Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan Lagos. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu ordered the deployment of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Ahmed Iliyasu as AIG Zone 2 command comprising Lagos and Ogun State Police commands.
AIG Ahmed Iliyasu is taking over from DIG Lawal Shehu who was recently promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police and transferred to Force Headquarters as DIG ‘E’ Department in-charge of Training.
AIG Ahmed Iliyasu holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in History, Diploma in Law and Master Degree in Business Administration from Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto.
AIG Ahmed Iliyasu was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Academy Annex, Kaduna as CADET ASP in the month of August, 1988 and has served within the force in various capacities. He started his career in his home state Kaduna as O/C Basic Studies at Police College Kaduna, 2i/c DCO Kachia Division Kaduna State, O/C GI SCIID Kaduna Command and O/C Anti Car-Theft.
He was then transferred to Gombe State as DPO Gombe Central, 2i/c SCIID Gombe and DPO Kaltungo Gombe State before he was transferred to the FCT Command Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Utako ‘B’ Division. He was made Director Professional Studies at the Nigeria Police Academy Kano, Area Commander Sokoto metro as Assistant Commissioner of Police and Deputy Commissioner in-charge Anti-Fraud section at the force CIID Abuja. He was also the 2i/c Command at the Port Authority, Western Command Lagos; before his elevation to the rank of Commissioner of Police and posted to the Police Staff College Jos as Coordinator of Courses, Commissioner of Police Ogun State Command and FORCE PROVOST MARSHAL (in-charge of discipline).
Prior to his elevation to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police and posting to Zone 2 Lagos: he was the Commissioner of Police in-charge of Kano State Command.
AIG Ahmed Iliyasu has attended several courses among which are United Nations Angola, Verification Mission III (Unavem III), AIDE-DE Camp (ADC) Course, Police Staff College, Jos, Intermediate Command Course, (ICC), Police Staff College, Jos, Counter Revolutionary Course (CRW), Command and Staff College, Jaji, Kaduna, Senior Command Course (SCC), Police Staff College (PSC), Jos, Simulation Course (SC), Command and Staff College, Jaji, Kaduna, AC-DC Promotion Course at Police Staff College, Jos, Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID) Annual Seminar Conference with Head of Sections/Departments FHQ Abuja, Strategic Leadership and management Course, Administration of Criminal Justice (ACJA) Abuja and Security/Cultural Exchange Programs between Nigeria Police and Peoples Republic of China (PRC).
Part of the achievements of AIG Ahmed Iliyasu are smashing of notorious armed robbery gangs and recovery of many properties, vehicles and arrest of fraudsters in Kaduna, Gombe, Sokoto, Utako FCT and Abuja. He has Investigated and successfully prosecuted cases of sensitive political, as well as State and economic nature at FCIID Abuja between 2012 and 2014, stabilised and positioned Area Command, Sokoto Metro between 2007- 2012 by establishing and reviving the ever strongest and vibrant Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) at the Area Command level which earned him commendations.
AIG Ahmed Iliyasu has investigated a serious case of International nature, as the Chief Investigation Officer at the United Nations Verification Mission III Headquarters at Luanda, Angola (Unaven III Angola) which led to the arrest of syndicate that specializes in stealing and robbing UN Vehicles and the recovery of some UN Vehicle, arms-AK47 and ammunitions, which earned him a letter of commendation from UN Police Commissioner 1995-1996. He lead a team which Rescued kidnapped Children of Turkish International School and the eventual arrest of the kidnappers in 2018, successful inauguration of Eminent People’s Forum (EPF) in Ogun State, sustaining the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Ogun State through massive membership drive and establishment of Micro PCRC Units across the State, arrest of armed robbers / kidnappers terrorizing the Ore/Benin/Sagamu Expressway and incessant record of notorious Godogodo leftover’s cases of kidnapping along the Ijebu-Ode Waterways, arrest of armed robbery syndicate terrorizing the long-bridge along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and recovery of Arms and Ammunition, hence, restoring sanity to once dreaded long-bridge Kara, Ogun State.
Others include; arrest of armed robbery syndicate and car snatchers/recovery of various suspected stolen vehicles both within and outside Ogun State between 2016 and 2019. Launching of Operation Puff-Adder in Kano:- which led to the arrest of more than 1,700 criminals in 100 days in Kano with offences ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery, membership of unlawful Boko Haram, thugery popularly known in Kano as ‘’Daba’’, car snatching/ theft, and many more.
He was instrumental to bursting and arrest of 8 suspects syndicate of child traffickers and rescue of 9 kidnapped Kano children from Onitsha in Anambra State, arrest of four suspected cattle-rustlers/recovery of about 1000 cattles from the dreaded Falgore forest, arrest of 48 suspected kidnappers, 46 armed robbery suspects and recovery of 49 stolen/snatched motor vehicles, resuscitated and established a vibrant Police Community Relation Committee (PCRC) in all Divisions, Area Commands and the State Headquarters in Kano, overhauling of Police Public Relations Department of the command to meet the standard of the developing commercial State of Kano, through Community Policing Strategy. The rate / ratio of all forms of crimes were drastically reduced to the barest minimum across board which led to the return of peace, stability and successful inaugurations of hitch free Sallah celebration which is the first ever recorded in the history of Kano State for decades.
AIG Ahmed Iliyasu is a serial award winner due to his hard work and dedication to duty some of his awards include Award of Excellence from the Crescent University, Abeokuta on Community Policing Initiatives, 2017. Security watch Africa Award as most innovative Commissioner of police in West Africa, received in Gambia, 2018. Most media friendly Award by Radio Nigeria Paramount FM Abeokuta, 2017, Excellence Award on Community Policing by TM News Magazine, 2018, Award of Excellence on Security by West Africa Students Parliament, 2016, ‘’Most Outstanding Commissioner of Police of All Time in Nigeria’’ by Unified Nigerian Youth Forum (UNYF), 2019. Certificate of Credence presented to Nigeria Police Force, Kano State Command as the Best Command of the Year 2019 by Unified Nigerian Youth Forum (UNYF).2019. Chieftaincy Award by Oodua Youth Parliament [OYP] as Akogun of Oodua Youth Parliament in Kano, DALLATUN TUDUN WADA in his own Community, AARE MAYEGUN OF IGBEIN LAND in Ogun State, and the AGU NEECHEMBA ‘1’ of Igbo Community in Ogun state.
A statement by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 2 Command Headquarters, DSP Hauwa Idris Adamu stated that AIG Ahmed Iliyasu was no doubt, the man capable and fit for the responsibility of policing Lagos and Ogun States due to his conspicuous wealth of knowledge and experience.
Adamu therefore enjoined residents of both commands to accord the new AIG Zone 2 the utmost supports as they were all stakeholders in the security of the zone.
