The Small and Medium Enterprises Group of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), the premier Chamber of Commerce and a leading voice in the organised private sector (OPS) in Nigeria, is set to hold its annual symposium for the year.
The theme of the symposium is “Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement: Realities for the Nigerian SMEs.”
The symposium, according to LCCI, is scheduled to hold on Wednesday 27th November, 2019 at the LCCI Conference and Exhibition Centre, 10, Nurudeen Olowopopo Way, Behind MKO Abiola Gardens, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos by 10am.
Muda Yusuf, Director General of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) said, “Following the official signing of the agreement by majority of African countries, it has become necessary to identify new opportunities and challenges that may be associated with the new economic realities in the region.”
This according to him is essential to ensure sustainability of SME investments and assess the competitiveness that may arise as result of the trade agreement.
“The thrust of the symposium is to create avenue for opinion sharing on the AfCFTA and the attendant benefits and challenges it may impact on businesses in Nigeria, particularly SMEs”, he added.
Yusuf further stressed that, “The Small and Medium Enterprises Group is a very active arm of the Chamber known for its constructive engagement on critical issues affecting investment and investors in various sectors of the economy where its members operate. And that the membership of the group cuts across many sectors of the economy, as well as other services companies.”
The Chairman of the Group, Mr. Abiodun Oladapo said that seasoned professionals, leaders of businesses, top public sector officials and relevant government agencies will be available to discuss the theme.
Oladapo also confirmed that “Mr. Olusegun Awolowo, Executive Director, Nigeria Export Promotion Council; Mr. Fola Aiyeola, President, West Africa Business Council; Mr. Prince Williams-Joel, Senior Partner, Prince Joel & Associates and representative of the Director General, Standards Organisation of Nigeria would make presentations at the event.”
