Sequel to its earlier financial contributions, the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Dr. George Moghalu has authorized the release of the agency’s water-buses, security patrol boats and other craft for use by relevant states and federal agencies in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.

According to a statement released on Monday by the management of NIWA, those crafts would be useful for moving personnel and materials to and from the riverine communities, as well as maintaining security on the inland waterways.

The statement quoted Muoghalu as urging all waterways users to observe safety precautions, social distancing and other guidelines as given by the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 in order to stay safe in these trying times.

It will be recalled that NIWA had earlier donated the sum of Five Million Naira (N5, 000, 000) to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and another Five Million Naira (N5, 000, 000) to the Lagos State Government as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

It noted that the gesture would help government fight the killer virus with more vigor and determination.
