Police burst car snatching syndicate in Anambra, arrest four suspects

…Recovers dismantled Jeep allegedly snatched by the syndicate

The Anambra State Police command has busted a car snatching syndicate who specializes in snatching fanciful cars from their victims.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, SP Haruna Mohammed who confirmed the development in a statement in Awka on Tuesday, said that at about 9.45pm on 3rd April, 2020, following a tip off, police operatives attached to Abagana Division arrested two suspects in connection with snatching of a Lexus 330 Jeep with Reg. No: ACA 348 HM from one Uzoigwe Nkemjika of plot No. 2/9 Ike Ekweremadu Avenue, Enugu on 31st March, 2020 along Abagana-Eziowelle road.

Mohammed gave the names of the suspects to include; ThankGod Akwo, 30, of Ogidi and Onwe Hillary, 32 of Ebonyi State.

He added that further investigation led to the arrest of two other members of the gang in Imo State as follows; Tirimisiyu Tijani, 27, from Ibaban in Oyo State and Suleiman Raheem, 30, from Kwara State adding that both of them reside at Okoro meje, Orlu in Imo State.

“Meanwhile, the stolen jeep was recovered inside a panel beating workshop at Amaifeke, Orlu in Imo State where it was dismantled and going through total overhaul.

“Also recovered is the operational vehicle (a white Mitsubishi L 300 bus with Reg. No: AAH 536ZV) used by the syndicate in committing the crime.

“Suspects have all confessed to the crime voluntarily and investigation is still ongoing after which all the culprits would be brought to justice”, he added.
