The Management of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has inaugurated an eleven (11) Member Emergency Response Team at its Corporate Headquarters, Marina, Lagos in order that there would be strategic and immediate rapid response in case of emergencies at the agency’s Headquarters and indeed, the port locations.

Speaking during the occasion, the Managing Director, NPA, Hadiza Bala Usman, represented by the Executive Director, Marine and Operations, NPA, Hon. Onari Brown appealed that members should be ready to put themselves at the frontline of emergency response at the Marina Headquarters, at all times.

Furthermore, the Managing Director, NPA noted that every Head of Departments is a constituent part of this emergency response team who has specific roles to play during the emergency.

She therefore asked that respective officers must have sense of responsibility to duty and ensure effective collaborations at such delicate periods.

Similarly, she said two teams shall be constituted at the port levels vis-a-vis Port Emergency Management Team (PEMT) and Port Emergency Response Team (PERT) and that details of their membership and modus shall be duly communicated to all the port locations.

These committee is expected to amongst other things respond proactively during work place emergencies covering fire, explosion incidents, medical emergencies (like Ebola, Lassa fever, Covid-19 etc.), public safety threat, armed robbery and terrorism threat, marine vessel collision in the port, accidental release of hazardous substances and natural disasters like flood or storm.
