The Transition Committee Chairman, Orumba North Local Government Area, Sir Ogo Ekwueme, today inaugurated members of the Local Government Transition Committee confirmed by the Anambra State House of Assembly for the Local Government Area.
Speaking shortly after administering the Oath of Office and Oath Allegiance on the Councillors, Ekwueme congratulated them for the privilege given to them to serve the people of the Local Government Area, even as he reminded them that the task ahead of them is quite challenging.
Reminding them of the mandate given to them by Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo during the inauguration of the Chairmen of the 21 Local Government Areas in the state recently, he noted that there’s a lot of work to be done insisting that it’s not going to be business as usual.
“The governor wants results not excuses and together we will make it happen. The governor is looking up to me and I am looking up to you, the Councillors. By the guidance of the party hierarchy, we will deliver.
“You all know that there was an original list before this one. This one contained one or two changes but may be not in Orumba North but in some other Local Governments, some names were dropped and some names were added.
So, we are all privileged to be here. Even me, although the governor wanted me but within this Local Government Area, there were plenty people vying for this same position. So, I am not taking it for granted and I will put in my best every single day in this office. I hope you will do the same too.
“Make sure that you are always around because work has commenced now that you are sworn in. We will be having regular meeting and we will be getting reports of what is happening in your Wards. We will pass down information, you have to go there, sensitize the people. There’s a lot the government is doing especially in the area of waste management. Well, I am happy that since I assumed duty here, driving down from Oko, the place is relatively neat and we have to sustain that.
“And it is your duty, when you get down to your Wards, make sure you call meetings and inform them of the goings on. Let’s propagate the governor’s manifesto. I don’t have copies to give to anybody but we try and bring out the main thrusts of the manifesto and make sure all of you have it. The same way I am representing him (the governor) here, the same way you are representing me at your Wards, all for the governor’s benefit and for APGA’s benefit”, he stated.
He, however, advised the Councillors not to engage in endless fight with their Ward Chairmen but work together with them for the good of the party saying, “I don’t want to hear that you are going down trying to usurp his powers, you are supposed to work together up to the next six to seven months. Bear in mind that if we don’t win the forthcoming election, that will be problem for all of us.”
While describing himself as an easy going person who could be reached at any time by any of them, Ekwueme who is the immediate past Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Special Duties pointed out that “I don’t have any problem but where I will have problem is where you are not pulling your weight.”
“You will be getting other directives. Every two to three days, you will be hearing from this office. Like I said, my door is always open, once you have any issue you feel you cannot handle on your own, my number is always there for you to call”, he further add.
While apologizing to the Chairman of APGA in the Local Government Area, Chief Festus Alukwe for the short notice within which today’s inauguration was communicated to him and the party, he assured him that APGA in Orumba North would not be relegated in whatever the Transition Committee would be doing.
“We will give you all the due required of a party and we will come to you for support, encouragement and advice. I know some, I don’t know all of it”, he added.
