… Pledges to empower the youths

The Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba North Local Government Area, Hon. Sir Ogo Ekwueme has agreed to flag off the “Schools Reach Out” programme being put together by the Association of Anambra State Towns Union, ASATU Youths, Orumba North chapter scheduled to hold later in September 2022.

During the courtesy visit by the leadership of ASATU Youths at the Local Government headquarters in Ajalli, the Mayor, who did not hide his joy at the visit, directed them to liaise with the Deputy Chairman of the Council, Hon. Henry Madu with regards planting coconut and palm seedlings in schools as a way of encouraging them to imbibe the culture of tree planting.

The Chairman disclosed his administration’s intent to develop and empower the youths of the area through agriculture and skills acquisition informing them of efforts to revitalize and redeploy the skills acquisition centre at the Council’s Secretariat.

He invited them to help the state drive its campaign to redirect the youths from crime to productive ventures so as to build a liveable and prosperous homeland as envisioned by the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman, ASATU Youths, Orumba North chapter, Mr. Emmanuel Izuegbunam congratulated the Mayor on his recent appointment expressing his gratitude to the governor for appointing a youth to superintend the affairs of the Council area.

He disclosed that they would be visiting some select schools in Orumba North to sensitize them on the need for discipline and career-development. This will ensure children become useful members of the society adding that “now that cultism has now been introduced into our Secondary schools, we aim to use the “Schools Reach Out” programme to enlighten them on the dangers of cultism and the need to shun it.”

He continued, “We will be putting up a platform in place to support those of them who want to acquire skills but whose parents cannot afford to support them. In the proposed “Schools Reach Out” programme, we are looking forward to teaching them how to plant different economic trees so that they will imbibe the culture of tree planting as they grow up. Now that the governor of the state, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo has led the way by distributing palm and coconut seedlings, there’s no better way to teach the pupils the importance of agriculture.”
