The Wife of the Chairman, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Lady Chiaku Ekwueme, yesterday visited the Community Secondary School, Ndiowu where she distributed sanitary kits to 160 school girls.
The visit was in continuation of “Pad 300 Rural Girls” campaign initiated by Lady Ekwueme in conjunction with the A-Z 4 Kids and DOVEF aimed at promoting hygiene, healthy living and eradicating poverty among young girls of secondary school age.
Yesterday’s event was the second of a three phase plan to give at least three hundred young girls of Orumba North Local Government Area sanitary kits as part of pad-a-girl campaign. The first phase held at the Community Secondary School, Oko on October 11, 2022 to mark the International Day of the Girl Child and was targeted at the beneficiaries from a community in Zone 3 of the Council area. 126 senior secondary school girls benefitted from the gesture.
This second phase of the programmes covered another 160 girls in Ndiowu community from Zone 2.
In a display of humanity, Lady Ekwueme who was touched on seeing some of the school girls attend school barefooted, collected their details with a promise to provide them with sandals. “These are little things we take for granted”, she said.
The Principal of the Community Secondary School, Ndiowu, Mrs. Lebechi Ezeike who could not hide her joy over the visit thanked Lady Ekwueme for choosing the school out of many schools in the zone and promised to build on the visit to improve the hygiene status of the girl child in the school and elsewhere.
