Western Ports Police Commissioner holds security meeting with stakeholders

…calls for a halt to blame game syndrome

A security meeting involving the Commissioner of Police, Western Ports Police Command and the leaders of the various association operating in the Western Ports has ended in Lagos with a call on all concerned to take the security, especially that of the ports as a challenge.

The meeting which was at the instance of the Commissioner of Police in-charge of the Western Ports, Mr. Kayode Aderanti had most of the associations operating in the ports in attendance, with top officers of the Western Ports Command and the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs).

The meeting Daily Champion gathered was held behind closed doors discussed security issues seriously calling for the blame game fast becoming a trend in the industry to stop and for the stakeholders to begin to address their own failings in order for a seamless synergy to be formed, for the security of all and for the economic well-being of Nigerians and that of those operating within the maritime sector.

Our correspondent reported that the Commissioner of Police Aderanti urged those that were present at the meeting to go back to their various offices and begin to sensitize their members on the need for everyone to be security conscious and to volunteer information that would help the Police in the discharge of its duty effectively as failure to do that may be costly.

It was also learnt that the stakeholders described the meeting as a welcomed development calling for its sustenance on a monthly or quarterly basis.

In attendance to the meeting were the leaders of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), National Association Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMATO), Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and the Nigerian Ports Authority Security Department to mention but a few.
