The Lagos State Government has called on the waterways users and the stakeholders to remain calm and refrain from drawing premature conclusions following the Supreme Court Judgement delivered on January 5, 2024 on the case between it and the National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA.

LASG, in a statement signed by Lawal Pedro SAN, the Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lagos State in response to a press release by NIWA in the judgement emphasized the need for the public to remain calm and patient during this period.

Pedro disclosed that the judgment was not read in open court, and parties involved were awaiting the Certified True Copy for a comprehensive understanding of the judgement.

Noting that the legal team of the Lagos State Government was actively working to obtain the Certified True Copy, he added that a detailed statement would be issued once they had thoroughly studied the judgment

“We therefore also urge the waterways users and stakeholders to refrain from drawing premature conclusions and allow the Lagos State Government the necessary time to analyze the implications of the judgment.

“We appreciate your understanding and cooperation”, he concluded.

It will be recalled that the Lagos State Government and the federal government through its agency, the National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA had engaged in legal battle over who regulates all activities on the Lagos Inland Waterways.
