The Matron of the women in National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders, NAGAFF, Hon. Princess Chi Ezeh has condemned the viral video in circulation on social media where a female customs officer, Assistant Comptroller Isa A.M was publicly humiliated by freight forwarders.
Recall that some freight forwarders and shippers at the Car Park C of Five Star Logistics Terminal, Tincan Island Port, were seen ridiculing the Customs officer in a video which has been trending on social media for over a week.
Speaking with journalists on Wednesday, Princess Chi who is also the Managing Director of Muna Sylver Nigeria Limited, condemned that act as disappointing and criticized the perpetrators for not seeking proper channels to make their reports or displeasure.
The freight forwarder and Governing Board member of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria, CRFFN, described AC Isa as an upright officer whose insistence on due processes and accurate duties led to the recent victimization against her personality.
“I found this development very appalling and I think such kind of actions in future should attract litigation. This is a Customs officer that is doing her job; but because she is upright people are victimizing her.
“The Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi MFR, and the TCIP Customs leadership under Comptroller Dera Nnadi mni, should ensure that AC Isa doesn’t suffer further harm on account of this development”, Princess Chi remarked.
The NAGAFF Vice President, Seaports for Western Zone, stressed that freight forwarders should learn how to go about registering their complaints and not attacking Customs officials.
Princess Chi remarked that no Customs official or government officer should be subjected to such ridicule and admonished freight forwarders to display conduct befitting of professionals.
Speaking as a woman, she empathized with AC Isa, even as she encouraged the Customs official to take the unfair attack as a springboard to be more resilient and diligent in her career.
