The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS has announced the postponement of the Gala and Awards Night initially scheduled for Friday, November 15, 2024, in Abuja in Abuja to wrap up the Comptroller General of Customs, CGC Conference.
This decision, according to a statement by the National Public Relations Officer of the Service, CSC Abdullahi Maiwada, was taken to allow the Service to identify with the mood of the nation in mourning the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, whose legacy of service to the nation remained in their hearts.
The statement stated that the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi had conveyed deep condolences to the family of the late Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, as well as to his colleagues and the entire Nigerian Armed Forces.
“Lt. Gen. Lagbaja was a leader of immense dedication and sacrifice. His contributions to Nigeria’s security and inter-agency cooperation are immeasurable,” said CGC Adeniyi. “We stand with the Nigerian Army, his family, and all Nigerians in honouring his memory and service.”
The Service, while acknowledging the weight of this moment, joining all who mourn the passing of a steadfast leader, however, informed that “the rescheduling of the Gala and Award Night allows us to pay our last respects to a man whose impact resonates across all security services and beyond.”
“Further information regarding the event’s rescheduled date will be communicated in due time. We appreciate the understanding and patience of all stakeholders, partners, and guests”, the Statement said.
