…As Olanrewaju harps on constant training of members
In a bid to groom a set of well informed and knowledgeable leadership at the grassroots, the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents, ANLCA has perfected a plan to set up orientation camp for the newly elected executive.
A former National President of ANLCA, Prince Olayiwola Shittu who disclosed this in his speech during the inauguration of the newly elected executive of the association in Lagos recently stated that the ANLCA National President, Mr. Emenike Nwokeoji had asked him to play “a role the new orientation camp that they are putting in place for all elected officials.”
Describing the proposed orientation camp as the fulcrum of progress, the former ANLCA boss said, “We are working on it .”
He continued, “Before now, it has not been continuous, doing orientation after inauguration, we left it once in a while that there’s going to be training but this time around, it’s going to be tied to your office so that if you don’t attend that orientation, it’s like not attending customs training for the purposes of achieving the aims and objectives of the association.
“First and foremost, the National Secretary should make available, the copy of the 2013 Constitution to every elected official so that he goes through it properly so that when that orientation is going to come up, it is going to be tied to what you learnt from the constitution.
“We have seen it all, we know how to guide the association, I will be there to do that for you.”
On his part, the Chairman of the Customs Consultative Council, CCC, Aare Hakeem Olanrewaju admonished the newly elected executive to imbibe attitudinal change even as he further advised them to be professional in their dealings as leaders.
He also urged them to make training one of their cardinal objectives encouraging them to use the monies that they collect to ensure that their members were well trained and equipped.
His words, “Let’s train ourselves, let’s improve ourselves. You see the customs today, see where they are, it is because of training that they are developing. I always ask myself, if my son or my daughter asks me today Dad, I want to do the job that you are doing, what will I advise him to read in school?
“We should be able to be thinking of how we can be harnessing this our job to our children. I remember when Prince Shittu was the President, we were talking about insurance, pension scheme, please these are the things we should all look at.
“I will urge the President and his team to organize a town hall meeting or seminar where all of us should meet so that we can be on the same page. Of course, I want unity in this organization.”
