In recent times, the National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA has been grappling with incessant boat mishaps, resulting in countless loss of lives on Nigeria inland waterways.
Investigation reveals that the use of unstable boats which are built by artisans without the application of modern principles of boat design, which in most cases, are overloaded with passengers and goods accounts for a greater percentage of these fatal boat accidents; in addition to non compliance to safety standards by boat owners and operators.

To forestall this ugly trend on Nigerian inland waterways, Flotilla Academy of Marine Technology is organising a professional training on Adopting New Boat Designs that meet Safety Standards and ensure Regulatory Compliance.
According to the Technical Director of the Academy, Engr. Adakole Ejegbudu, “All training are conducted and certified by Flotilla Academy of Marine Technology in partnership with Practical Boat Design and Seamanship International, PBDSI and endorsed by Transportation Growth Initiative, TGI.”
He also revealed that the 5 days training is scheduled to hold between the 19th and 23rd May, 2025, urging interested participants to register and be part of the insightful training.
Prospective candidates who wish to know more about the school are advised to visit the academy’s website: www.flotillaacademy.com, while those seeking to make further inquiries on how to register and participate in the training can call: 07056356240, 07063243127 or 08127239105.
