The Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) has warned freight forwarders to desist from running to the press or the court to settle matters that ordinarily would have been settled by the Council.
Speaking in a meeting with the freight forwarders in Lagos recently, the Registrar of the Council, Sir Mike Jukwe added that freight forwarders who run to the court or the press instead of the Council for resolution would no longer be allowed.
Jukwe stated that freight forwarders should instead bring their matter before the tribunal of the Council which would try and find guilty such people including the customs saying that the existence of the tribunal and its right to try and charge made the Council different.
According to him,” problems are to be brought to the floor of the Council instead of the press or court. Freight forwarders who run to the court or to the press and not the Council for resolution of conflict will no longer be allowed”.
“The tribunal will try and find guilty such people including the customs. The existence of this tribunal and the right to try and charge makes the Council different”.
He further hinted that the council had written to the Ministry for the port to be raked of touts and illegal operators to enable its proper functioning adding that the council was ready to work with the Nigerian Shippers’ Council and all other relevant bodies in carrying out its duties.
The Registrar advised the leaders of freight forwarding associations to mandate their members to register for the enforcement team, investigation panel and that the tribunal would no longer allow unregistered members to practice.
