The Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mallam Habib Abdullahi has re-iterated his commitment to the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan in the area of Safety of life and property especially in the maritime sector.
Mallam Abdullahi stated this today 16th December, 2014 while speaking at the commissioning ceremony of Multi-Purpose Fire Service Trucks and Equipment at TinCan Island Port, Lagos.
The Managing Director added that the procurement of the equipment is also in fulfilment of the Corporate Social Responsibility Policy of the Authority, stressing that the fire equipment would not only be used for combating fire outbreak in the Port and its environs but also to assist other agencies in Lagos State.
While commending officers and men of the Authority’s Fire Service for their efficiency and dedication, which has attracted commendation and awards for the Authority over the years, he congratulated the Management of Tin Can Island Port for blazing the trail of excellence.
In his remarks, the General Manager, Health Safety & Environment, Engr. T. O. Talabi said the equipment areof the highest standards and they can take the Authority to the highest level of safety as regards fire outbreak in and outside the Ports.
He told the Managing Director that the Authority’s Fire Officer have been well trained to handle the equipment and assured Management that the equipment would be fully protected and maintained.
The equipment commissioned by the Managing Director are, Six Rapid Response Mini Fire Engines, Ten Fire Water Tankers and Two Bronco Skylift(Hydraulic Platform).
Highlights of the occasion were the demonstration of Fire Safety Rescue Operation from a very high building and the cutting of tape to signify the commissioning of the equipment.
