The Registrar, Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), Sir Mike Jukwe has said that the council would in no distance time have a governing council in place to give it direction.
It will be recalled that since the last governing council served out its tenure in 2012, the council had been without any governing council in place, an action that had drastically affected the council in its overall operation.
However, Jukwe who was addressing Journalists in Lagos stated that as soon as the suspension of the collection of transaction fee by the council was lifted, all efforts would be geared towards having an new governing council in place.
Although he was not specific on when the new governing council will be set up but he however observed that it would not be long before the dream materializes.
According to him,” on the new governing council, the Honourable Minister will speak on that but I would expect that very soon, like I said, once the suspension on the transaction fee is lifted, then we will be in a better position to have a new council”.
“The tenure of the previous council members ended, of course they have to leave but then like I said, the Ministry is already putting measures in place to get the governing council back very soon. I can’t give you the time lag but I can say very soon”.
On the relationship between the freight forwarding associations and the CRFFN, Jukwe has this to say,” the relationship is excellent, we have been meeting with them and like I said when I was welcoming the Honourable Minister, with us being here, the proximity, we will take advantage of that and meet with them very often, all grey areas will be sorted out. We have an excellent relationship with all the associations”.
Speaking further on the capacity building of the staff of the council, the CRFFN boss said that this year’s training for the staff of the council was the third in the series as according to him; the council was committed to making sure that the staff were trained.
“If you build the capacity for the staff, they will deliver better. That is what we are doing”, he said.
