The Governor of Anambra State has charged the Muslim community in the State to be vigilant and report criminal elements who may be planning to foment trouble, and ensure they live in peace with their neighbours.
The Governor stated this when a delegation from the Muslim community in the state paid him Sallah homage Saturday at his country home in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area.
Governor Obiano told the group whom he feted to Eid-el-Fitr lunch that the current peace and security reigning in Anambra was in the interest of all and should be sustained.
He said, “I urge you to live in peace and respect the culture of the community where you live. I know that most of you were born here so you have as much stake as indigenes. You must try and know the people who come into your community and report any suspicious activities to the Police.”
Earlier, the leader of delegation and Commander of NDLEA, in Anambra State, Mr. Sule Momodu, commended Obiano for the initiative of identifying and celebrating with the Muslim community in Anambra State since he came into office, and described it as a landmark achievement.
“We thank you for the good work you are doing for the people of Anambra and the Muslim Community, and the great security architecture you set-up which has led to the widely acknowledge security of lives and property.” Sule stated.
Praying for peace in Anambra and the welfare of the Governor and his family, the Chief Imam of Bida Central Mosque, Onitsha, Abdulrahman Hamza, recalled that “only yesterday the Governor presided over the sorrowful mass burial held for tanker fire victims but today we are gathered for Sallah celebrations in your house. We ask God to bless you and your family. We come with peace, and ask God to give you the courage to lead the State always.”
In a vote of thanks, Special Assistant to the Governor on Muslim Affairs, Alhaji Garba Haruna, assured that the Muslims across the state pray for him always.
“I can assure you that we are praying for you and your family. We praise you for making it possible for us to live like locals in Anambra. We hold monthly security meetings to check and prevent anything that may disturb the peace.”
