FG grants 3 months grace period to importers of products without SONCAP Certificates

The Federal Government has given the importers of the existing Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON)’s regulated products made without the pre-requisite SONCAP Certificates 3 months grace period beginning from Thursday 10th September, 2015 to clear them.

This was contained in a public notice issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria with the caption,” Re: Integration of SON’s e-Certificates into the Nigeria Integrated Customs Information System (NICIS) which was signed by J.O Adewale for Director Trade and Investment of CBN and made available to Primetime Reporters.

The statement however advised the affected importers to apply to the Director-General/Chief Executive of SON to obtain e-Provisional Clearance Certificate (ePCC) to clear their consignments adding that all SON’s e-Certificates should be used for the processing and clearance of all SON’s regulated products with effect from December 1, 2015.

It reads,” This is to notify all the Authorized Dealers and the general public that the Standards Organization of Nigeria’s e-Certificates (i.e. e-products certificates and e-SONCAP Certificates) were deployed on the Nigeria Integrated Customs Information System (NICIS) on Thursday 10 September, 2015.

“Consequently, e-products shall form part of documents to be attached to all Form “M” in respect to SON’s regulated products with effect from the date of deployment. Similarly, only e-SONCAP certificates shall henceforth be used in processing customs clearance of imported regulated products.

“However, in the case of existing SON’s regulated products made without the pre-requisite SONCAP Certificates, the importers of such products have been granted three months grace period effective from Thursday 10 September, 2015 to clear them. Affected importers in this category are required to apply to the Director-General/Chief Executive, Standards organization of Nigeria to obtain e-Provisional Clearance Certificate (ePCC) to clear their consignments.

“For the avoidance of doubts, all SON’s e-Certificates shall be used for processing and clearance of SON’s regulated products with effect from December 1, 2015. Please note and ensure compliance”.
