The Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (Rtd), recently eulogized the operational sagacity and dexterity of the Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘A’ Ikeja, during his official tour of Zone ‘A’, shortly after assumption of office.
He had at several forum, during the tour described the Unit as an epitome of discipline and hard work, ostensibly in view of some giant strides of the Unit, in terms of quality seizures.
Beyond its operational readiness to frontally confront smugglers in their den, the Unit is reputed as critical to the general performance of the Service, in view of the impact of its aggressive patrol activities, which have naturally enhanced the revenue generating capacity of commands in the zone.
These facts were highlighted by the Controller Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘A’, Comptroller Sani Madugu, during his meeting with team leaders, units/sectional heads on assumption of office and on his inaugural parade held recently.
In another development, the Controller announced to officers/men of the Unit at his inaugural parade that the Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (Rtd) sent a letter of commendation to the team leader of the Officer in-charge Controller’s Special Team Seme Axis, Deputy Superintendent of Customs Ohagwu Jude.
He stated that the commendation by the CGC was a clear demonstration of his desire to reward hard work so that officers and men of the Service could be spurred to greater efficiency.
He noted that the CGC, in a letter he personally signed stated categorically that the award was as result of uncommon dedication and commitment which resulted in remarkable seizures.
Meanwhile, the Controller confirmed that a team led by the recipient of the CGC’s commendation, at about 0125hrs of Thursday November 19th, 2015 intercepted 679 (six hundred and seventy nine) bags of 50kg parboiled Rice, 20 (twenty) cartons of delta soap, 8 (eight) cartons of insecticide, 40×25 liters of vegetable oil and 39 (thirty nine) cartons of vegetable oil with a Duty Paid Value of five million and fifty four thousand naira (N5,054,000.00) only, in one operation.
The Controller revealed that the team trailed the consignment to Itegbe waterside to Iyana Era, where it was offloaded into a warehouse.
The Controller called for a re-doubled effort on the part of team leaders, in order to drive the campaign of suppression of smuggling to logical conclusion.
He added that the recent seizure was made on the waters along the dangerous terrains which necessitated the encomiums showered on the team.
He promised that the FOU ‘A’ will continue to maintain its leading role in anti-smuggling and fully prepared to sustain the present onslaught on smugglers.
The Controller vowed to deal ruthlessly with smugglers who might want to test the will of the Unit.
