The Federal Ministry of Transport has described as false and baseless, the various allegations of N13 billion fraud and threat of sack against the Rector of Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN) Oron, Mr. Joshua Okpo.

Speaking to The Journal in an exclusive telephone interview, Mrs. Yetunde Osinaike, the Deputy Director, Press and Public Relations of the Federal Ministry of Transport described the stories making the rounds as false.

“Please disregard the stories. It’s not true. As I speak with you now, I am doing a rejoinder which I will send out to the media after the Minister must have approved of it. I don’t know why people won’t verify a story before going public with it.

“The Rector is not being investigated and there is no threat of sack against him from the Minister. Please disregard it”, she said.

A section of the maritime media has been awash with stories bordering on alleged N13 billion fraud and threat of sack from the Minister.

President Muhammadu Buhari approved the re-appointment of Okpo as Rector for a new term of four years in August this year.
