The Minister of Transport, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, Maritime Agencies’ Chief Executives and seasoned industry stakeholders are expected to be in attendance at a two-day conference organised by Maritime Correspondents Organisation of Nigeria (MARCON), a body of experienced maritime journalists.
The event tagged ”Improved Ports Efficiency in Nigeria: Catalyst for Economic Growth” comes up on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th 2016 at Rockview Hotel Apapa , Lagos State South West Nigeria.
The Minister, who is the Special Guest of Honour is expected to lead other top shots in the transport sector through sessions that will engender an awakening on ports sensitivity to a growing economy.
The much desired and well deserved hub port status for Nigeria will be brought to the fore at the two-day event, which participants’ inputs will form part of recommendations and communique.
Paper presentations and syndicate sessions are expected to address improving efficiency and effectiveness toward sustaining a viable port industry.
Critical highlights of the events shall include, port charges; modern cargo handling; security of vessels, crews and cargoes and an overview of how Nigeria has fared in the implementation of the International Ship and Port facility Security (ISPS) Code.
There will also be a paper presentation from both the public and private sectors of the industry which will focus on improved ports efficiency in Nigeria.
In a statement, the Planning Committee Chairman of MARCON, Uche Usim added that a communiqué encapsulating various postulations from paper presentations and participant’s contributions will be issued at the end at the event.
