The Management of Port and Terminal Management Academy of Nigeria, POTEMA, has confirmed SHIPS and PORTS DAILY as the most widely read and widely Circulated maritime Newspaper in Nigeria.
This was contained in an award given to the publication at the Academy’s 4th National Graduation Ceremony and the Investiture of Dr Taiwo Afolabi as the Chairman of the governing Council of POTEMA in Lagos on Saturday.
Presenting the award to the representative of the Company, Daniel Nwakwuoke, the Chairman of the occasion, Otunba Kunle Folarin, said their is no doubt about giving SHIPS&PORTS the award because the Publication merit it with the objective reportage of issues in the industry.
Folarin said, “it is no doubt that SHIPS&PORTS worth the award that was given to them by POTEMA as the most widely read and Circulated Maritime Publication in the country because their reportage of the maritime industry is second to none.”
Also, POTEMA recognises Ports &Cargo Handling services Limited, a subsidiary of SIFAX group as the Best Most organised Container terminal of 2013.
Ports and Cargo was also honoured with the most accessible Terminal of the Year, the most authomated seaport terminal, most service delivery terminal while the terminal manager, Mustapha Muhammed was awarded the most outstanding terminal Manager of the Year.
Accepting the investiture as the Chairman of the Academy, the Chairman of the Group, Dr Taiwo Afolabi represented by the GM SIFAX Consult, Mr Mike Owope, said, in his capacity as the Chairman governing Council of the group, he is ready to help steer the affairs of the Academy in the Right part for the growth of the Academy.
Afolabi said, “we as a company we will support as much as possible and this will be done with the support of our friends in the industry, this is to ensure that whatever need to be done to bring the academy to the fore even for Government attention is done.”
Also, the Chairman of SIFAX, congratulate the graduating student and charged them to make sure they make the maritime sector a better place for everybody.
However, in his speech earlier, the Regristrar of the Academy, Dr Babatunde samuel said, honouring Afolabi is a unique day for the Academy because that is the first time since inception that the Academy would have a “core technocrat” as the Chairman of the Council.
Babatunde, also said that government agencies such as the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA to mention afew had been of tremendous help to the academy.
