The Nigeria Shipowners’ Association (NISA) has distanced itself from recent statement made by the President of the association, Capt Niyi Labinjo over the appointment of Dakuku Peterside as the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
According to a statement by the General Secretary of the association, Tunji Brown, Capt Labinjo remained suspended and his statement cannot represent that of the association.
According to him,” The issue of his (Labinjo) suspension from office is now a matter currently pending before Honourable Justice Dagat of the Federal High Court Sitting at Ikoyi Lagos, following the transfer of Honourable Justice Yunusa to the Enugu Division of the Federal High Court. However, we like to reiterate that Honourable Justice Dagat did not vacate the order of Honourable Justice Yunusa who refused the application for interim injunctive relief. Therefore, Captain Dada Olaniyi Labinjo remains suspended”.
“The comment by Captain Labinjo on the appointment of new Director-General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Dr. Dakuku Peterside does not represent the opinion of the Nigeria Shipowners’ Association”.
Brown said the statement made by Labinjo on the DG should be ignored because NISA was fully in support of the Federal Government’s appointment of Dakuku as the DG of NIMASA.
“NISA is in full support of the newly formed Shipowners’ forum. The objective of the forum is to enable stakeholders present a common agenda to the government on policy implementation. NISA remains a formidable association and we shall continue to support the businesses of our full and associate members. NISA remains committed to the integrity of the maritime industry and will continue to pursue actions that build maritime industry confidence”, he said.
