The Senate has assured the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT)of the upper Legislative body’s readiness to accelerate the passage of the Professional Logistic body draft bill before the National Assembly.
This was made known last Thursday by the President of the Institute, Maj. Gen. Umoru Usman (Rtd.) at the induction ceremony of Fellows and Corporate members of the institute in Lagos.
According to him, “currently, we are advancing in talks with the National Assembly in other to acquire the charter act for CILT Nigeria. Members of the National Assembly have indicated support for this course and we have strong reasons to believe the institute will soon be given her charter status in Nigeria.”
The President also said the association have sought audience with the Speaker of the House of Representative for their support but have not been able to meet with the Leadership.
“After meeting with the senate President, we sought audience with the Speaker of the lower house but we have not been able to meet him due to the political activities in the assembly but we hope to meet him soon.”
Gen. Usman said that the Chartered institute of Logistics and Transport is a leading international professional and membership body for all sector of logistics, Transport and Supply Chain in the world.
He observed that the body has provided extensive education, training and certification programmes and professional networking platforms for individuals and practitioners across the world thus producing seasoned and accomplished professionals through the process.
“As a membership based organization and in line with the dictates of our philosophy of growing and developing business around the world, CILT creates platforms for corporate organization to actively participate in mutually benefiting activities and the institute affords ample opportunities to such corporate organization which key into her membership to enjoy the privileges of life time benefits through training and networking. We intend to continue to do better and soar higher with the collective support of our members,” the president said.
Umaru also said that the institute has commenced operations as a full fledge territory on January 10th 2014 and as first and only complete territory in Africa.
“We feel very strongly that our new status would be a motivational force to us all in the discharge of our functions in the discharge of our functions in the supply chain, logistics and transport industry and a strong foundation in the supply chain, logistic and transport industry.”
The corporate bodies inducted were Transport and Logistics Nigeria Limited, Okeyson Transport while Igiebor Heart Sunday, Olatunji Olasiji Ayodeji and 40 others were inducted as charted members.
However, the professional body inducted 42 new chartered members, three ordinary members and two corporate bodies into the institute.
The Former Director General of NIMASA, Ade Dosunmu was the Chairman of the event while the Port Manager of the Western Ports, Adenike Sonaike, and the General Manager of Western Ports was the Guest Speaker.
