The newly elected Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Tincan Island Port Chapter, Prince Olusegun Oduntan yesterday took over as the substantive Chairman of the chapter for the next three (3) years.

In his takeover speech, Prince Oduntan reminded the members of the association who trooped out en masse to witness the epoch making event that true to his campaign promises, he would ensure that every ANLCA member in the chapter got insurance cover to protect him or her against any eventuality.

He stated that the insurance policy would be flagged off after the event with the coverage of the first 100 persons as the staff of Niger Insurance PLC which was contracted to cover the members of the association was on hand to ensure that that happen immediately after the ceremony.

According to him,” Go back to the handbills that I distributed to you, one of it says because if anyone is not healthy here, he will n t be here and even if we are nursing one thing or the other, God will heal us but in case of any eventuality, insurance is one of our 100 agenda that we promised and I can tell you today that Niger Insurance is here and we are going to insure 100 persons here immediately. She (Niger Insurance Staff) is going to address you and take your details”.

The new ANLCA Tincan boss further stated that he was going to ensure that then elders of the associations who had served the chapter meritoriously and had remained with it through the trying period would be remunerated as they were going to be taken care of by the chapter under his watch.

“Let me tell you, the issue of Tincan troubles and wahala has come to an end. By the time I am leaving office, it is going to be a good succession like this because we have leaders that are leaders, that we really identified that they are leaders. Their licenses are here, that is why we identify that they are our leaders.

“That is why our elders are to be taken care of. There is going to be remuneration for our elders and they are going to be taken care of. We all know that this world is stressful, at a particular age, you cannot be running up and down. We are going to make sure that since this is where you started, that if you are going home, there should be something to eat.

“I can tell you, we said within 100 days, before the 100 days is over, you will have a brand new bus for this chapter. Now we cannot say we are all and all, our relationship with customs will be improved upon and what we are going to do is this, anytime you have issues, there is going to be a help desk at every CPC, there is going to be a help desk at the gates even at the bonded terminal that we are covering and if they cannot handle that, come to the secretariat here and you are going to see the best IT hands here that even the customs cannot contend with.

While thanking God for making it possible for him and his executives to make it in their various capacities, he however assured his members that with their support, they were going to improve on what they met on ground.

Earlier in his valedictory speech, the outgone Chairman of the chapter, Prince Dr. Kayode Oyinlola expressed his happiness for being part of history at the chapter pointing out that in the history of the chapter, no Chairman had successfully handed over the reign of power to another Chairman even as he said that he was leaving the chapter than when he took over the reign of power in the chapter.

Oyinlola said,” The most important thing is, how are you leaving the place you are leaving? I am happy to tell you today that I am leaving this place a happier man than when I came in. I am saying this because I came in to meet so many challenges in Tincan. I came in to meet a volatile Tincan where almost every day or every month, the FOU will come here and pick agents and carry them to anywhere they like. Even some of us did not finish the cases they had with FOU that time up till now. But our executive has been able to solve that within a very short period.

“Even we have a case where we have agents in 13 Police stations in Lagos State, they will come to Tincan sand pick them and go and drop them at Panti, they will come to Tincan and pick agents and go and drop them at Alagbon, they will come to Tincan and go and drop them at Ikoyi, but that is not happening again.

“Secondly, when we came in, we were able to give you a befitting secretariat here, even though this is rented but it is a befitting one. We have so many persons who had operated inside their vehicles, inside Toyota Camry, inside bus etc. But when I came here, I said I will not do that, I will have a secretariat and this is the secretariat we are having here”.

While extolling the personality of the new Chairman, Prince Oyinlola however urged members of the association to rally round him in order that he may succeed adding that himself and his executives may not achieve more without the members’ support.
