Chamber of Shipping elects Isichei as President, appoints Obi Director-General

The Governing Council of the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping on Thursday elected its long standing Vice President, Mr. Andy Isichei as its 6th President.

Mr. Isichei has been a Vice President to four of the five past Presidents before him, a very loyal but passionate Council member of the Chamber who has always provided a rallying point for the organization and ensured it rose from every of its developmental challenges over the years.

Mr. Isichei runs a successful conglomerate with deep business interests in haulage logistics, dredging, oil and gas and others.

He was a one-time Managing Director of the defunct National Clearing and Freight Agency (NACFA).

Speaking in his welcome address, the new President promised to take the Chamber to a higher level working together with the newly elected Vice President, Alhaji Tijani Rhamallan and all the members of the Board.

The Chamber of Shipping, he affirmed would continue to foster cooperation, understanding and effective partnerships with all sectors of the Nigerian maritime sector including relevant government bodies and regulatory agencies, the Legislature, the International Oil Companies (IOCs), indigenous stakeholders and interested parties within the Nigerian Maritime industry, to ensure that Nigeria becomes the major hub of shipping business in West African sub region with world class standards in line with global best practices.

He invited all stakeholders to join the Chamber of Shipping and be a change-agent to make things work again for the Nigerian maritime industry.

During the same event, a new Director General was appointed for the Chamber. She is Barr. Obiageli Obi.

Barr. Obi comes on board the Chamber with a load of experience from the private sector and a commitment and zeal to contribute to the upliftment of the industry.

She has interests in training and is expected to lead a deeper turnaround of the fortunes of the Chamber of Shipping.
