The Lagos State Police Command may sack three Policemen attached to Bariga Divisional Headquarters for allegedly handcuffing a man and chaining him to a power Generator in the station.
The erring policemen which include a Police Inspector are currently facing Police disciplinary processes popularly called ‘Police orderly room trial’ .
If found guilty, the three cop may end up losing their job.
It was gathered that the policemen had allegedly arrested a suspect along Bariga road on July 16, 2017, but rather than hand him over at the station proceeded to chaining him to one of their functional generating set.
It was gathered that the Divisional Police Officer of the station uncovered the ‘inhuman act’ during an inspection tour of the division.
On enquiry, the Divisional Police Officer was able to identify those who chained the suspect and ordered their immediate detention.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, who confirmed the arrest at a press briefing held Tuesday at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja, said the policemen were being tried in accordance with the extant rules regulating the activities of policemen.
“In view of the desire by the Inspector General of Police to sanitize the force, the three policemen involved in the act are being tried and adequate disciplinary action will be taken against them at the end of the trial. The Policemen had arrested a man for committing an offence along Bariga road. They took him to the station where he was handcuffed to a generator.
“The command frowns at any case of misconduct against any of its men. Policemen are advised to operate within the ambit of their guidelines. Anyone found wanting in the discharge of his duty would be made to face the wrath of the law”, the CP said.
Owoseni who also gave the crime statistics in the state within the last two weeks said that about 53 armed robbery suspects and 12 suspected members of different notorious cult gangs were also arrested.
He said that about ten various types of guns, 13 rounds of live ammunition, and 30 vehicles were also recovered from various criminal gangs in the metropolis.
