…Congratulates newly decorated DCGs, ACGs
The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has frowned at the statement credited to the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali (Rtd) to the effect that the Service may not implement the ease of doing business policy of the federal government.
The association which made its position known through its National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Kayode Farinto in a press release it released in Lagos listed customs as one of the stumbling blocks to the implementation of the ease of doing business policy.
While congratulating the newly decorated Deputy Comptrollers-General (DCGs) and Assistant Comptrollers-General (ACGs), ANLCA urged the newly decorated officers to insist that their administration must be in tune with the federal government’s policy calling on them to remember that they were career officers who needed to bring back the policies of Col. Ali to conform with the World Customs Organization and that of the World Trade Organization policy on Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) which Nigeria was signatory to by ensuring the successful implementation of the second phase of the ease of doing business policy which the federal government rolled out last week.
The letter reads,”On behalf of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), I congratulate the newly promoted DCGs and ACGs of the Nigeria Customs Service as its new management team.
“However, we charge you to see your new promotion and elevation as recognition of your individual contributions to the growth of the service and the development of NCS hence the need for each and everyone of them to contribute their quota to the success of PMB’s administration.
“The government has been magnanimous enough in all her efforts to convince the comity of nations that we can be better in our dealings by the introduction of a national action plan on ease of doing business which must translate to the reduction of cost cargo clearance in our ports.
“But it is believed and evidently shows that the NCS is one of the stumbling blocks from its implementation. The statement of your CGC during his last visit to Lagos is an attestation to this fact where he said that the service is not ready to implement the ease of doing business.
“I urge this new management team to insist that your administration must be in tune with the FGN policy on this matter. Remember that you are all career officers and you need to bring back the policy of Col. Hameed Ali to conform with the World Customs Organization and World Trade Organization policy on Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) which Nigeria is a signatory to particularly by ensuring the success of the implementation of the second phase of the ease of doing business which the government rolled out last week”.
