Vincent Osakwe noted that the programme seeks to reward some deserving citizens of Anambra state and some friends of the state for their immense contributions to the society as well as to generate fund for the Skills Acquisition Centre they proposed to build in Anambra state.
Osakwe hinted that the centre was conceived following the increasing rate of youth restiveness in the southeast region of the country having felt that the restiveness was as a result of high rate of unemployment.
According to him, “We felt that with the establishment of the Skills Acquisition Centre, that we will be able to engage them properly and then with their graduation from the centre, majority of them will have something to fall back on and also specialize in a particular trade that will also engage them in production of quality goods and these days of export, that will also benefit them and members of their families and that is the essence and crux of the matter”.
He disclosed that the programme was going to be unique because the last time they had the event of this nature was in November 2, 2013 adding that, “since that time, there were little challenges within the association and that challenges have been resolved hence this particular event. It is unique in the sense that people chosen for the awards are men who have distinguished themselves in different aspects of life and also have touched lives of average persons within the society”.
The AASDU boss however said that the event is essentially for invited guests who would be able to donate to the proposed Skills Acquisition Centre at the end of the day.
