The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has fixed January 13, 2018 for the conduct of the re-run election to fill the vacant Anambra Central senatorial election. The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dakuku Peterside has stated that capacity building initiatives and sectorial reforms are critical elements that can address maritime security issues in the Gulf of Guinea.
