The Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mallam Habib Abdullahi has said that the authority is fully aware of the provisions of the Fiscal Responsibility Act of the Federal Government and has been complying over the years by paying all remittances to the Federation Accounts. Palpable anxiety and confusion has enveloped the Nigeria Customs Service following recent directive by the management that personnel in the Assistant Comptroller and Deputy Comptroller cadre should within a week, avail the lead office their enlistment entry qualifications. The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dakuku Peterside has again reiterated his desire for a military led patrol of the Nigeria maritime domain to curb the rising incidences of piracy in the Gulf of Guinea. The infrastructure deficit at the Nigerian ports may soon be a thing of the past as the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has said the administrative charges from the International Cargo Tracking Note (ICTN) will help the Federal Government to address the deficits. The Council also said that the scheme was targeted at checkmating revenue leakages, under declaration, concealment and unilateral imposition of undue surcharges on cargoes. The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) recently held a sensitization workshop for all exporters of woods and other products in the command. The workshop became imperative following the recent upsurge of unprocessed woods exportation which negates the federal government policy on such exports.
