The President of Shippers’ Association Lagos State (SALS), Rev. Jonathan Nicol  has called on the Federal Government to immediately begin investigations and institute necessary sanctions against foreigners taking over freight forwarding business from Nigerians. In a Press Release issued by the association in Lagos on Friday, Nicole lamented that foreigners have taken over almost all the processes of cargo clearance at the ports, leaving Nigerian freight forwarders idle. The Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hammed Ali (rtd.) has directed all officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service to declare their assets within 14 days. A circular signed by the Comptroller-General and addressed to all Deputy Comptrollers-General, Zonal Coordinators and Customs Area Controllers said the new measure was aimed at ensuring transparency and compliance with the rule of law. According to the circular, the directive was in compliance with “the Bank Employees Declaration of Assets Act Cap B1 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004”. The Seme Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service has once again demonstrated an unprecedented zeal in actualizing one out of the tripartite core mandates of the Comptroller General of Customs as contained in the CGC’s policy thrust. The Command consecutively performed excellently in terms of revenue generation, as the performance indicators for the months of November and December hit the roof.
