The Secretary of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Tincan Island Chapter, Evang. David Kanikwu has said that the re-introduction of Cargo Tracking Note (CTN) as being proposed by the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) could only be welcomed by the maritime stakeholders if only the new CTN as packaged by NSC did not come with it any other additional cost. A Maritime Lawyer, Barr. Osuala Emmanuel Nwagbara has queried the relevance of the 1% Comprehensive Import Supervision Scheme (CISS) still being charged by the Nigeria Customs Service to facilitate clearance of cargoes in the Nigerian ports since it had outlived its usefulness. Nwagbara who raised this question during an interaction with the maritime journalists in Lagos on Tuesday also queried the need for the 7% surcharge that the Nigerian shippers pay which according to him was supposed to be for ports development since the ports had been concessioned out and was to be developed by the concessionaires as contained in…

Our attention has been drawn to the somewhat comic and disappointing search for relevance by Mr. Ken Emeakayi, a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, with his Open Letter released to select journalists at a Press Briefing in Awka on August 17, 2015. In describing Mr. Emeakayi as a member of Anambra state PDP, we are of course only being charitable as it is not even clear if Emeakayi has not been expelled from the party by one or more of the numerous factions of the party currently at each other’s throats. Emeakayi and his sponsors…

The Shippers Association of Lagos State (SALS) has identified the high cost of doing business in the Nigerian ports as one of the major problems confronting the Nigerian shipper which needed to be frontally tackled by the government.
