Mr. Haruna Baba Jauro has formally taken over from Barrister Calistus Nwabueze Obi as the Acting Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). The handover ceremony took place in the Agency on Monday 27th July, 2015. While pledging his unreserved loyalty to the Acting DG, Mr. Obi enjoined staff of the Agency to support Mr. Haruna Baba Jauro. The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano defied the torrential rain across the state to inspect the havoc wrecked by flooding in some estates in Awka and Onitsha. The Governor who was presiding over the weekly Executive Council meeting had to call it off following reports of collapse of buildings and flooding. Barely two weeks after the Director of Maritime Services, Federal Ministry of Transport, Musa Nagogo signed the approval for the collection of Practitioners’ Operating Fees (POF), indications are rife that the approval did not follow due process. The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Muhammed Bashir, is reportedly in trouble over the recent leadership tussle in the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). A few days after taking over as acting Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Calistus Nwabueze, has been replaced by the Executive Director Finance and Administration, Haruna Jauro. Nwabueze took over from the former Director-General of the NIMASA, Dr. Patrick Akpobolokemi, on Tuesday, following a directive from the Federal Government that Akpobolokemi should hand over to the most senior officer.
