Anambra 2017: Gov. Obiano emerges APGA governorship candidate

…Retains Dr. Nkem Okeke as running mate

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State yesterday emerged the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Governorship Candidate for the November 18, 2017 Governorship poll following part’s primary election held in Awka the State Capital.

Governor Obiano who was the only contestant in APGA won the party’s gubernatorial ticket with 1, 070 ‘Yes’ votes against 11 ‘No’ votes and 11 invalid votes at the party primary held at Prof Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka.

The special congress had the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on hand to monitor the APGA primary election and at the end were evidently very satisfied with the orderly and transparent conduct of the exercise.

Delivering his acceptance speech, Gov. Obiano who gave a summary of his stewardship, explained the need to consolidate on the laudable achievements of his administration while announcing his deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke as his running mate.

Present at the event were the governor, Chief Willie Obiano; his deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke and members of the State Executive Council; members of National and State Assemblies with Madam Speaker, Rt. Hon. Rita Mmaduagwu, Hon. Dozie Nwankwo and Hon. Gabriel Onyenweife.

Also present were the former National Chairman of the Party, Chief Victor Umeh who was recently inaugurated as the Director General of Gov. Obiano’s re-election campaign as well as the former National Secretary of the party, Alhaji Sanni Shinkafi, who is also the Chairman, APGA Primary Election Panel.

In attendance also were other members of the Primary Election Panel; members of APGA Board of Trustees; National and State Working Committees members; delegates from the 326 wards in Anambra State; major stakeholders and party faithful.
