…says information not correct
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has denied the alleged plans to sack ten of its General Managers describing the information as false.
Speaking in interview with Primetime Reporters at the Weekend, the Assistant General Manager Public Affairs of NPA, Mr. Musa Iliya however said that even if there were people like that, they must have attained the mandatory thirty-five years in service or sixty years of age, whichever comes first.
Iliya also said that in the case of a General Manager, he or she must exit the position at the attainment of eight years in that position adding that that was the government regulation which no one needed to be reminded about.
According to him,” it is not correct. If there are people of that caliber, they must have served thirty-five years or they are sixty years of age. Everybody knows his time of entry and his time of retirement because there are age limits; if you have been a General Manager for eight years or you are sixty years of age or you have served for thirty-five years”.
“There is nothing like somebody is disengaging you from service and you; you know that this is your time. So, anybody that enters the service, not only the General Managers, knows the time of his exit. That is the government regulation; it is not that somebody is pushing them away”.
He expressed dismay over the way and manner journalists were making news out of what he called non issue asking them to focus on issues that were more beneficial to the maritime sector than they do with trivial matters.
“So many papers have been carrying the information that the Management is trying to sack them, I don’t know why they are carrying that falsehood that the authority is sacking ten General Managers. It is not proper to say that”, he said.
When asked to confirm whether the said ten General Managers about to be relieved off their duties have attained any of the mentioned conditions for retirement, Mr. Iliya could not make any further comment as he quickly went numb.
Recall that the media had been awashed with the news of the looming sack of ten General Managers of the NPA by the Management of the authority.
