In its bid to boost efforts at ensuring that wastes generated by vessels at the nation’s seaports do not litter the Nations water ways, the Management of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has commissioned five gabage trucks at Tin Can Island Port on Thursday.
The trucks were procured by African Circles under a joint venture arrangement between the company and the Authority.
The acquisition of the trucks is in compliance with the provisions of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) code on Marine Pollution which NPA is a signatory.
Speaking shortly before the commissioning, the Executive Director, Marine and Operations of the Authority, Engineer David Omonibeke said NPA as a responsible corporate entity remains committed to safety of the Nations waterways in line with the transformation agenda of the President Goodluck Jonathan Administration.
Engineer Omonibeke thanked President Goodluck Jonathan for his support to the Authority and gave assurances that the present management will continue to promote the Nigerian economy through the maritime sector.
Also present at the occasion was the General Manger, Health, Safety and Environment of NPA, Engineer T.O Talabi and the Representative of Tin Can Island Port Manager, Mr. Samuel Odewole. while the African circle was represented by the Acting Coordinating officer, MrFidi Ahmadu and Mrs Oyenike Shobowale, Regional Manager west.
African Circle is the Marine Pollution 73/78 Waste Reception Facility Operator for Nigerian Ports Authority.
