The Shippers Association of Lagos State (SALS) has called on Nigerians to give President Muhammadu Buhari a minimum of three months to settle down in office to enable him put together members of his cabinet that would serve the interests of Nigerians in the long run.
The President of SALS, Rev. Jonathan Nicol who made this appeal in congratulatory message he sent to President Buhari said such time would help the President not to hurriedly make mistakes that all Nigerians and those living in the country would regret.
Nicol hinted that the President had a lot on his table now and those things were not palatable news for the country which he had to surmount reminding that SALS called for a new port order which according to him was an indirect way of saying that it needed a change and that to bring a change was not easy.
“So, we welcome him for accepting to be the one that will lead the way for a new Nigeria and it is not easy to lay that kind of foundation”.
“So, I will appeal to Nigerians to give him time to settle down. If we start to stampede him into hurried decisions, we are the ones pushing him into making mistakes. We should give him a minimum of three months to settle down and then he knows from that level of time, the priority he will take off from”.
“Already, he has said that he will deal with the Boko Haram sect, so that is his priority. Then we have other areas like the power sector, availability of fuel in this country and the maritime issue. These are all giant problems, power sector is like a man directing a boat without a compass”, he said.
The SALS boss maintained that President Buhari would have to do all these saying that Nigerians would not want a situation where they would stampede him to take rash decisions which they would regret later asking them to pray for God’s guidance, good health and fortitude on the part of the President so that he would be guided correctly to do the right for the country.
“That is our candid wish and appeal to Nigerians, he should be given some time to take his details”, he concluded.
