The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Seme Area Command have successfully handed over to the Nigeria Army one thousand four hundred and twenty (1,420) pairs of combat boots and a military truck that was seized by the command.

It could be recalled that Seme area command seized the above items with the consciousness of the current security challenges in the fight against terrorism that has threatened the peace and unity of the Nation.

The Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Sabo Hassan  disclosed that the Comptroller General of Customs had approved the release of the seized and condemned  military truck and the 1,420 pairs of combat boots to the Nigeria Army in support of the current operations against Boko Haram terrorist in the Northern part of Nigeria.

Considering the prevailing security challenges that the Nation is passing through, any material that will breach the peace of the nation’s citizenry as indicated in the Nigeria Customs External Tariff (Fourth schedule Part 1 s/no 13 of Absolute prohibition (rather than trade)) stands forfeited to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The above items condemned as required by law were handed to the Nigeria Army through Col. A.M Kanoma and Lt. Col. Y.O Yinusa of Headquarters NAOC Abatti barracks Surulere- Lagos on Wednesday.

The officers and men of the service at the international borders are doing all they could by scanning all imported goods and 100% examination to stamp out the proliferation of weapons of any kind in to the country.

It is also important to state that the Nigeria Customs Service is taking an uncompromising stand with the federal government on her resolve to wipe out all agents and elements of insecurity like terrorism that has bedeviled the peaceful co-existence of the nation.

In addition to our core statutory functions of revenue generation, anti-smuggling operations and facilitation of legitimate trade, the service remained resolute in her complementary role as security watchdogs at the international borders.

This is because the officers and men of the service  who have sworn to defend the territorial borders against any threat that will undermine the national security of Nigeria are living up to their oaths as demonstrated by the handing over of the above items that stands as security risk to  peace.
