The Seme Border Command of the Nigeria Customs Service on Wednesday witnessed a change of baton as a new Controller, Comptroller Victor Dimka took over from the Acting Controller of the Command, Deputy Comptroller Sabo Hassan.
Speaking at the occasion, the new Customs Area Controller, Compt. Victor Dimka declared his intention to consolidate on the achievement of his predecessor with an intensified effort geared towards generating more revenue.
Compt. Dimka restates the service commitment to suppressing smuggling activities across the international frontier adding that the fight against smuggling of poultry products was still ongoing and would be sustain.
He also re-emphasized that all hand must be on deck to surmount the challenges of manning a peculiar international border like Seme which was characterized by heavy vehicular and human traffic.
The new CAC tasked all officers of the command not to look the other side but should be checkmated by the policy thrust of the CGC while discharging their statutory responsibilities.
He said the Command must perform above average in terms of revenue generation, anti-smuggling drive, legitimate trade facilitation and the security of the Nation through the effective manning of the international border.
Compt. Dimka Victor urged all officers to imbibe the culture of transparency and professionalism while discharging their responsibilities warning that any negative conduct observed among officers along the international border would not be tolerated.
The new Customs Area Controller stated that for more revenue to be generated, smuggling must be fought to a standstill, a duty he had come to accomplish and urge all officers to braced up to the challenge to perform despite the constraints of marshy creeks that may not be accessible to vehicular surveillance.
He therefore called on the enforcement unit of the command to be prepared to do the needful noting that enforcement of the service policies was a familiar terrain to him hence the need for compliance to excel in the enforcement unit of the command cannot be over-emphasized.
