The founder, National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Dr. Boniface Aniebonam has advised the Registrar of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), Sir Mike Jukwe to thread with caution while expending the council’s fund in the absence of a well constituted Governing Council.
Aniebonam who handed down the advice in an interview with Primetime Reporters in Lagos recently also decried the continued absence the governing council adding that there is a limit to which an individual can administer the CRFFN.
He pointed out that leaving the council without a governing council for a period spanning over four years was not in the best interest of the council as well as the freight forwarders.
He however opined that the delay notwithstanding, he was aware that the present Minister of Transportation was also thinking seriously about conducting election to elect members of the council otherwise, they may be returning to statusquo ante.
“A lot of things have been going wrong in that aspect, these are issues, that those involved in expending those monies must be careful because it is the council that administers the CRFFN even in the issue of disbursement.
“There must be a time limit whereby an individual can be administering CRFFN, this is very important because there are two important organs of CRFFN that are strategic, one is the council, the other is the freight forwarders’ forum where issues are raised, discussed in the council and then forwarded to the Honorable Minister of Transportation as provided under the Act section 5.
“So, for us not to be having a constituted council is not the best thing more so when it is taking to much time. A period of three months or so after the first council would have been more ideal but the way we are going now is not the best but I know that the Minister is also seriously thinking about election, if he is not, we may be returning to the statusquo ante.
“First of all, what we needed to do is to constitute the council so that the council can be administered properly. They are working on it, all of us are working on that because those who do not know, tomorrow they will know that CRFFN is for all of us, it is the protection we needed in the industry that will allude that profession and make us professionals in this country having gone through the courses approved by CRFFN”, he said.
