A statement issued at Abuja Friday by then Acting National Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Joseph Attah stated that the promotion which was based on the performances of the personnel at the 2016 promotion examination, annual performance evaluation scores, seniority and availability of vacancies at various ranks was released after a thorough vetting to ensure strict adherence to public service promotion guidelines.

A breakdown of the promotion showed that 45 Assistant Inspectors of Customs were promoted to the rank of Inspectors of Customs, 563 Customs Assistant I was promoted to Senior Customs Assistant, 650 Customs Assistant II to Customs Assistant I, 5 Senior Customs Assistant to Chief Customs Assistant and 298 Customs Assistant III to Customs Assistant II thereby bringing the total number of promoted officers to 1, 561.
